Tianjin 6th East Asian Games
The Flag Presentation Ceremony for the Hong Kong, China Delegation to the Tianjin 6th East Asian Games (EAG) cum the Welcome Home Reception for the Hong Kong, China Delegation to the Nanjing 2nd Asian Youth Games (AYG) were concluded successfully at the Harbour Grand Hong Kong today (19 September 2013). Taking the opportunity of the joyful Mid-Autumn Festival, the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (the Federation) presented mooncakes from a well wish sponsor to all athletes and guests, wishing them every success in the Games.
Witnessed by the Elected Officers of the Federation and guests, including HKSAR Government officials and National Sports Associations’ representatives, the Hon. TSANG Tak Sing, GBS, JP, Secretary for Home Affairs of Home Affairs Bureau presented the HKSAR flag to Mr. Timothy T.T. FOK, GBS, JP, President of the Federation, Mr. PANG Chung, SBS, BBS, Hon. Secretary General of the Federation and Mr. Kenneth K.K. FOK, Chef de Mission of the Hong Kong, China Delegation to the Tianjin 6th EAG and gave his warmest blessing to the Delegation.
The 6th EAG will be held from 6 to 15 October 2013 in Tianjin, China. Hong Kong will be sending 306 athletes to the Games participating in 23 sports, namely Aquatics (Swimming/Diving), Athletics, Badminton, Baseball, Basketball, Bowling, Cycling, DanceSport, Dragon Boat, Fencing, Football, Gymnastics, Hockey, Judo, Karatedo, Shooting, Squash, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis, Volleyball, Weightlifting and Wushu. The Delegation list is at Annex I. The Federation wishes the experience they received in the last EAG at home will pave their ways to continuous success in the 6th EAG.
The Federation will set up a webpage for the 6th EAG to introduce the Games and Hong Kong, China Delegation. During the period of the Games, the most updated competition results of the Hong Kong, China Delegation will be uploaded onto the webpage. Nanjing 2nd Asian Youth Games
The Welcome Home Reception for the Hong Kong, China Delegation to the Nanjing 2nd AYG was also held at the same occasion. Hong Kong sent 102 young athletes born between 1996 to 1999 participating in 12 sports, i.e. Aquatics (Swimming/Diving), Athletics, Badminton, Fencing, Football, Golf, Handball, Judo, Rugby, Squash, Table Tennis and Tennis in the AYG which was recently held from 16 to 24 August 2013 in Nanjing, China.
The Hong Kong Delegation returned with triumphant results by attaining 20 medals, including 2 Gold, 5 Silver and 13 Bronze in the six sports events, i.e. Aquatics (Swimming/Diving), Badminton, Fencing, Rugby, Squash and Table Tennis, ranked 11th out of 45 Asian Regions in the medal tally. Medallists of the 2nd AYG are listed at Annex II. At the Reception, the Federation was honoured to have invited Mr. TSANG, President FOK, Mr. C. PANG, Mr. Raymond YOUNG, JP, Permanent Secretary of Home Affairs, Home Affairs Bureau, Mrs. Betty FUNG, JP, Director of Leisure Services, Leisure and Cultural Services Department, Mr. Bobby CHENG, JP, Deputy Director of Leisure and Cultural Services (Leisure Services) and Mr. Ronnie M.C.WONG, JP, Chef de Mission to present souvenirs to the medallists who won laurels in the AYG, as an encouragement to keep striving for excellence and gave them blessings to create new milestone in their sporting career in the future.
Finally, the Federation would like to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt appreciation to the Home Affairs Bureau, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department for their staunch support, FILA Marketing (Hong Kong) Limited for providing the official sports uniform, Kent & Curwen for providing the official formal uniform, Air China in sponsoring the air tickets to Tianjin. Also, special thanks should go to Kee Wah Bakery for sponsoring Kee Wah White Lotus Seed Paste Mooncakes with Two Yolks to all guests and delegation members in this Mid-Autumn Festival.
