The Hong Kong Athletes Career & Education Programme (HKACEP), under the auspices of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (The Federation) Retired Athletes Continuing Education Award cum First EMBA Scholarship Presentation Ceremony was held today at President’s Office of Olympic House. Officiating guests including Mr. Victor HUI, GBS, JP, Vice President of the Federation cum Chairman of HKACEP Committee, Mr. Brian STEVENSON, SBS, JP, Vice President of the Federation, Mr. PANG Chung, SBS, BBS, Hon. Secretary General of the Federation cum Vice Chairman of HKACEP Committee, Dr. Gang HAO, Associate Vice President (Development), City University of Hong Kong, Professor DOU Wenyu, Associate Dean, College of Business of City University of Hong Kong and Dr. John LEUNG, Director of EMBA Program, College of Business of City University of Hong Kong.
Mr. CHENG Ka Ho, MH, former wushu athlete was awarded the first EMBA Scholarship presented by the College of Business, City University of Hong Kong to retired athletes. In addition, in recognition of the retired athletes’ zeal and perseverance on their continuing education upon their post-athletic career, certificates were awarded to the athlete beneficiaries receiving education scholarships including Ms. YUNG Ka Yan (rowing), Mr. CHAN King Yin (windsurfing) and Mr. NG Yat Hoi (football) of which they come forth to share their achievement of studies and further career development.
Mr. Victor HUI thanked the Government and the College of Business, City University of Hong Kong’s generous support to the retired athletes and expressed that continue education would definitely be a key factor on athletes’ successful career transformation. HKACEP would continue to provide various education supports from language enrichment, vocational training, post-secondary to undergraduate studies. It is believed that the EMBA scholarship would bring retired athletes to a broader vision and higher level of achievement in career development.
In the past 5 years, the HKACEP Committee has granted 63 education scholarships in a total of $1.64M, benefiting 43 retired athletes for their continuing education. In future, the Federation would put much efforts in promoting and providing education, career and life skill supports to retired athletes for their post-athletic career transformation.
Introduction of HKACEP
HKACEP, under the auspices of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China and financially supported by Home Affairs Bureau for the establishment of HKACEP Office since September 2008, has been providing career, education and life skills supports to retired and retiring athletes. As at mid February 2014, HKACEP has been providing various supports to over 300 athletes under 44 National Sports Associations.
