In support of the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games, the Hong Kong Olympic Academy and the Management Company of Olympic House Limited (MCOHL), both under the auspices of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (Federation), organized the 2014 Summer Youth Leadership Camp on Olympism on 23 to 25 July 2014 at Tai Tam Scout Centre, Hong Kong. The Opening Ceremony was held on 23 July 2014, officiated by Mr. PANG Chung, SBS, Hon. Secretary General of the Federation cum Chairman of Hong Kong Olympic Academy, Mr. Vincent CHIU, Chief Executive Officer (Recreation & Sport) of Home Affairs Bureau, and Mr. Herman HU, BBS, JP, Vice-Chairman (designate) of Management Committee of Olympic House.
Following the successful launching of the Summer Youth Leadership Camp on Olympism in 2013, the Federation organized the second edition of Summer Youth Camp on 23 July to 25 July 2014. In order to enlarge the coverage and facilitate more students, the selection base of the participants was broadened from the 4 participant schools of “School Legacy Scheme” to the participatory schools of the “School Education on Olympism Programme”. Finally, 42 students were selected from 16 local secondary schools to participate in this camp.
With the Closing Ceremony of the Camp held on 25 July 2014 (today), the Camp was successfully completed. The Closing Ceremony was officiated by Mr. Timothy FOK, GBS, JP, President of the Federation, Mr. Victor HUI, GBS, JP, Directors of the MCOHL, Mr. Vincent CHIU, Chief Executive Officer (Recreation & Sport) of Home Affairs Bureau, and Mr. Ronnie WONG, JP, Directors of the MCOHL.
At Closing Ceremony, a speech was delivered by Mr. Timothy FOK. The four teams then made their respective presentations through drama or speech to conclude and share with the guests their understanding about Olympism learnt during the Camp. Finally, in appreciation of the participation of each student and involvement of four elite athletes, a certificate presentation ceremony was conducted.
Mr. Timothy FOK mentioned in the Closing Ceremony that organizing the 2014 Summer Youth Leadership Camp on Olympism by the Federation at the period of Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games is a good chance to promote Olympism to the youth and the public and he anticipated to organize this kind of camp continuously in future.
The 2014 Summer Youth Leadership Camp on Olympism is held from 23 July to 25 July 2014 at Tai Tam Scout Centre, Hong Kong. A total of 42 secondary school students under the leadership of four athletes have experienced sports exercises, teambuilding activities, and seminars to understand the importance of Olympism and team spirit.
