2016 Olympism Camp


Jointly organized by the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (Federation) and the Hong Kong Sports Institute Limited (HKSI), the Opening Ceremony of the 2016 Olympism Camp was officially launched on 17 February 2016 at the Tai Tam Scout Centre, Tai Tam Road. Officiating guests including Ms Petty LAI Chun Yee, Principal Assistant Secretary for Home Affairs (Recreation and Sport) of Home Affairs Bureau, Mr. Carlson TONG, SBS, JP, Board Chairman of the Hong Kong Sports Institute Limited and Prof. Frank FU, MH, JP, Chairman of the Hong Kong Olympic Academy.

Ms. Petty LAI encouraged the athletes to strive for the qualification in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, in order to gain opportunity to complete with the world classed athletes.

Mr. Carlson TONG wished the participating athletes could be cultivated by the 3 Olympic Values including excellent, friendship and respect through the 3-day residential camp.

Prof. Frank FU thanked the staunch support from all the parties, the annual Olympism Camp was successfully held, which has benefitted over 120 elite athletes since 2013. Through the participation of the camp, athletes possess a positive influence over their entourage and the community for cohering the power in pursuing peace in the society.

The 3-day residential Camp, taking place from 17 - 19 February 2016, attracted 24 young athletes from 8 elite sports to participate. The participating athletes will be equipped with the knowledge about Hong Kong’s sports structure, Olympic history, anti-doping, media relation, athletes’ development path and athletes’ obligation and responsibility through various lectures, games and presentations. In addition, athletes will also inculcated with the core values of Olympism including “Excellence, Respect and Friendship” through tailor-made team-building activities.

Event brief:

The Olympism Camp is one of the highlighted events organized by the Federation in promoting Olympism and Olympic values, aimed at inculcating athletes the core values of Olympism and further assimilating them into their daily lives. The first Olympism Camp, held in February 2013, was concluded with positive responses from all the parties concerned including athletes, coaches, respective NSAs and representatives of Home Affairs Bureau.
