Opening Ceremony of PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games


The Opening Ceremony of PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games (OWG) was held today (9 February 2018) evening in the PyeongChang Olympic Stadium, Korea.


The flag bearer, Miss Arabella Caroline Yili NG, the first-ever skier representing Hong Kong, China to participate in the OWG, marched in the Ceremony with the Bauhinia Flag, followed by the delegation led by Chef de Mission, Mr. Tony YUE Kwok Leung, BBS, JP, Mr. WONG Po Kee, MH, Acting Hon. Secretary General of SF&OC and Mr. Edmond YUE, Team Manager of Alpine Skiing.


Mr. LEE Hee-beom, President & CEO of PyeongChang Organizing Committee for the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (POCOG) and Dr. Thomas BACH, President of the International Olympic Committee delivered speeches at the Ceremony.  Subsequently, MOON Jae-in President of Republic of Korea officially declared the Games open.


The Alpine Skiing team of Hong Kong, China Delegation was moved into the PyeongChang Olympic Village yesterday (8 February) and then had a free ski training today morning at Yongpyeong Alpine Centre. The first race of Arabella is scheduled on 12 February in Ladies Giant Slalom event and followed by Slalom event on14 February. 


Chef de Mission Mr. YUE praised the POCOG for providing excellent facilities and services to the delegation, including dinning, transportation, polyclinic, fitness center, recreational activities, etc.
