London, 8 August 2012: Less than one week before the conclusion of the London 2012 Olympic Games, the Hong Kong, China Delegation has taken this special day – 8 August to release its Interim Report and announce the Flag Bearer for the Closing Ceremony. A press conference was held today in the Media Conference Room of the Olympic Village with the members of the Delegation and HKSAR Government official.
Platform parties consist of The Hon. Timothy T. T. FOK, GBS, JP, President of the Federation, Mr. Jonathan McKINLEY, JP, Deputy Secretary for Home Affairs of HKSAR Government, Mr. PANG Chung, SBS, Hon. Secretary General of the Federation, Ms. Vivien LAU, BBS, JP, Chef de Mission of Hong Kong Delegation and Mr. Karl KWOK, MH, Deputy Chef de Mission of Hong Kong Delegation.
In his speech, Mr. FOK thanked the support from the HKSAR Government, headquarters officials, medical officials, sports team officials and the sponsors for their contribution to the Delegation. He was also proud of the achievements that Hong Kong athletes attained in the London 2012 Olympic Games, especially LEE Wai Sze of Hong Kong Cycling Team winning a bronze medal in Women's Keirin and the Table Tennis Men’s team qualified for the Bronze Medal match. For the athletes who were going to have competition in the coming few days, he wished them all the best in their striving for their excellence.
Mr. PANG summarized the current performances of Hong Kong Delegation as of 8 August. The detail of the results and the coming competition schedule of Hong Kong athlete were distributed in the Press Conference. As the Chef de Mission, Ms. LAU shared her feeling with the media for her being CDM in three multi-sports Games namely the Hong Kong 2009 East Asian Games, Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games and London 2012 Olympic Games.
The announcement of the Hong Kong Flag Bearer was the highlight of the event. Mr. TANG Peng, a member of the men’s table tennis team who has achieved remarkable results in this Games, was selected to represent the team to be the Flag Bearer at the Closing Ceremony.
