Athletes Selection for the 18th Asian Games
2018-08-23

In response to a media enquiry about the selection mechanism for athletes participating in the 18th Asian Games, the Federation has given our response on 20 August 2018 and the full version is reproduced as below:

The Federation’s Selection Mechanism for athletes participating in multi-sports Games has two tiers:  First, the National Sports Association (NSA) will select qualified athletes according to its own criteria.  Then, the recommended list will be submitted to the Federations’ Selection Committee for further consideration.  The SF&OC recommended list will then be submitted to the respective Organizing Committee of a particular Games for confirmation.  In the selection for athletes participating in the 18th Asian Games, we have adopted the same practice.

The Asian Games Selection Committee of the Federation comprised of over ten representatives from various National Sports Associations.  Based upon a set of agreed selection criteria, the Committee reviewed the shortlist from individual NSAs and made the final decision.  For details of the selection criteria, please visit the website of the Federation.

The Federation will not comment on the individual case.  However, the Federation did not have any information on athlete’s affiliated sports club.  Thus, the athlete’s affiliated sports club was not one of the factors for consideration.
