3000 persons show their support to 2019 Olympic Day To share happiness, intimacy of family and Olympism

International Olympic Day is on June 23 every year and it is an annual, global celebration. Every year, millions of people around the world – of all ages and from all walks of life, get active and participate in sporting, educational and cultural activities, encouraging them to enjoy the benefit from sport.

Olympic Day (OD) is an annual spectacular event organized by the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC) to celebrate the establishment of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), together with Hong Kong elite athletes and general sports lover to have an energetic, healthy and joyful Sunday!

2019 OD concluded successfully at Hong Kong Sports Institute today. Since 1987, the Federation organized the captioned event annually to celebrate this meaningful day and to promote Olympism.

The Federation was honored to have Ms. Michelle LI, JP, Director of Leisure and Cultural Services of Leisure and Cultural Services Department and Mr. Tony YUE, BBS, JP, Vice-President of the Federation cum Chairperson of the Olympic Day Organization Committee to officiate at the Event Ceremony. In addition, Mr. YEUNG Tak Keung, JP, Commissioner for Sports of Home Affair Bureau, The Hon MA Fung Kwok, SBS, JP, Legislative Councilor, SF&OC Elected Officers and athletes including : CHENG Chun Leung (Windsurfing), LUI Lai Yiu (Athletics), SHEK Wai Hung (Gymnastics) and SZE Hang Yu (Swimming) were also present for the kick- off ceremonies.

With the enthusiastic responses from the public, OD was well received with over 3,000 participants, including 51 corporate teams, consisted of National Sports Associations, Government departments and sponsors to form teams in the 3km Fun Run. The Federation continued to organize Family Run this year to encourage both parents and children to participate in sports together.

Other than the Run, the Federation also arranged a variety of sports activities in the Badminton Hall, including sports trial, sports demonstration and activity booths. Football Skill Challenge and Football friendly match are newly introduced this year. Hong Kong Football Representative Team players also joined the activity and share their skills with the participants. Since Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games will be held in July 2020, an Olympic themed activity booth was set up in order to promote the Olympic knowledge. Participants could also write down their message on cards to cheer for our Hong Kong athletes.

All participants could also participate in a lucky draw and the total value of all prizes was over HK$170,000 (Trade Promotion Competition Licence no.: 52124). In addition, the Federation arranged a Panasonic “Tic Tac Toe” Final Challenge to provide a chance to participants to challenge our Hong Kong athlete’s record. Top 10 participants of the Final Challenge could win the prizes sponsored by Panasonic with total value over HK$38,000.
